bedsweater logo design

branding

During my internship with Becker Design in the summer of 2023, I had the opportunity to redesign the logo for Bedsweater, a band looking for a fresh visual identity. The band requested a logo that captured a playful, cartoon-like vibe inspired by the bold, dynamic aesthetics of 1970s design. They also specifically wanted the logo to incorporate a bed icon—tying directly into their name—while maintaining an energetic, attention-grabbing presence.

I approached the project by first immersing myself in 1970s graphic styles, studying retro typography, bold outlines, and the playful use of perspective common in that era. I knew the logo needed to feel lively and approachable, so I selected a chunky, rounded typeface that conveyed softness and fun, while also making sure it stood out at different scales. I experimented with letter spacing and curvature to give the text a sense of motion, wrapping the letters slightly around the bed icon to unify the composition.

Throughout the process, I worked closely with Neil Becker, who provided mentorship and critical feedback at every stage. His insights on refining the line work, adjusting proportions, and balancing the composition helped elevate my initial sketches into a cohesive, polished final product. Through multiple iterations, I fine-tuned the shape of the bed, the placement of the pillow and blanket, and the integration of the text to ensure both clarity and visual harmony.

This project taught me valuable lessons in collaboration, iterative design, and adapting a brief into a distinctive visual identity. The final logo reflects the band’s playful personality while staying true to the retro inspiration, and I’m proud of how it captures both fun and professionalism in a bold, memorable way.
